7-Zip 22 is now available
The final version 7-Zip 22 is now available. It is the first stable version of 2022 of which is the best open source file decompressor and of course, totally free.
File decompressors are a type of software specialized in the compressed file handling. A type of file that, to understand it in a simple way, group others inside it. They have the main objective of saving space by applying different degrees of compression, but they also allow to improve their distribution on the Internet and their organization. Obviously, they are one of those essential applications for any computer.
In case you don’t know it, you should know that 7-Zip uses its own ‘7z’ archive format by default, although it supports others such as ZIP and RAR for both decompression and compression. As with most alternatives, it can unzip RAR files, but not create them. 7z uses a variety of compression algorithms such as bzip2, LZMA, and LZMA2, has self-extracting capabilities, drag-and-drop support, and a powerful file manager.
The latest version has improved support for the TAR format and the -snz switch, supports extracting APFS images from the Apple file system, and includes a new options window in the “add to archive” settings dialog. It has versions for Windows, 64 bits, 32 bits and ARM from Windows XP onwards, for Linux and also for macOS.
