This does not prevent us from talking about the Galaxy S23which will be the brand’s flagship in 2023. And, despite what you might think, this device will not have a 200-megapixel camera.
Yesterday the Korean firm announced a new sensor, called ISOCELL HP3, with the aforementioned resolution. Rumors began almost automatically that the Samsung Galaxy S23 would use it to offer an impressive brand in photography. It is true that the figure of 200 MP would be enough to fill a good number of headlines, but resolution is not everything in this type of component. And, the truth is that if you scratch a little it becomes clear that this is not an element intended for the high-end product.
What the Samsung sensor offers
The features that this component for the mobile camera has are quite good, beyond the resolution that ensures photos of a gargantuan size. But they fall short of what can be expected for a high-end device that has to compete with Xiaomi, Apple or OPPO to lead the mobile market in all its segments… including photography.
A couple of examples that make what we say clear is that, even compared to the Samsung Galaxy S22, the new HP3 sensor falls behind in what is important: obtaining the lowest possible quality and definition. The first of the examples is that the new sensor is of 1/1.4 inch, being smaller than the one integrated in the smartphone of the previous generation: 1/1.33 inches. That is, less light and detail is acquired.
Besides, the new component announced by Samsung has pixels of 0.56μm, which is far from the 0.8 of the Galaxy S22. This, again, reduces accuracy when taking photos or recording video, reducing color fidelity, among other things. So it seems pretty clear that the company’s new 200 MP item It is not intended for the new high-end for the year 2023 at all. That is to say, that for the moment it is an error to believe in its inclusion.
Is there anything reliable about the Galaxy S23?
Well, not much, but there is something that may be important: it seems that Samsung will stop betting on models with a different processor depending on the market. Therefore, the usual duality that was already common in the high-end of the firm will cease to exist. And this is good news because all users will have the same user experience. In addition, everything indicates that the chosen chip will be self-made, so we are talking about Exynos. Apart from this, little else is known about what this future smartphone will offer.
