LG Ultra PC is the series with which the South Korean firm marks its line of laptops to differentiate them from the better known LG Gram. If they use Intel processors, they are based on AMD hardware. And now they come to Europe.
LG does not have as extensive a range of personal computers as the large PC producers (Lenovo, HP or Dell), but -as is the case with Samsung- it has some notable series of laptops, some in convertible format, which stand out for their care design and extraordinary thinness and lightness.
Despite their name, the LG Ultra PCs are very similar to the Gram, ultraportables with thin and light chassis. Although LG previously marketed a 13-inch version, the company now distributes the series in two screen sizes of 14 and 16 inchesmatte panels, 300 nits of brightness, with 16:10 aspect ratio and Full HD resolution for 1920 x 1200 pixels.
The 14-inch model is 16.3mm thick and weighs just 1.29kg, while the 16-inch model maintains the same thickness and also has a fairly contained weight of 1.6kg. Undoubtedly, it focuses on enhancing mobility and for this they promise an autonomy of 21 and 20 hours respectively.
LG Ultra PC with AMD Ryzen
If the LG Grams use Intel processors and were recently refreshed with the 12th generation Core ‘Alder Lake’ chips, they use amd-hardware and specifically the Ryzen 5 5625U or Ryzen 7 5825U, ‘Barcelo’ series. This group of APUs are proficient in compute and graphics performance, but do not support advanced connectivity standards like USB4, DDR5/LPDDR5, and PCIe 4.0. In return, they are cheaper than their Intel counterparts.
Added to AMD chips 16 GB of LPDDR4X memory dual channel and PCIe SSD up to 1TB of internal storage capacity. They do feature Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1, as well as a fingerprint reader, HDMI output, a USB-C port with Display Port Alt mode and USB PD support, two USB-A ports, a microSD card slot, an audio jack and a power connector for the charger.
LG Ultra PCs will be available in Europe this month with starting prices of €1,199 for the 14-inch model and €1,399 for the 16 inch.
