iPhone 14, production problems will have limited impact
The launch of the iPhone 14 range is made more complicated by problems with supplies, but the setbacks will have a limited impact on the mass production of the new smartphones. The well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently underlined that from the pages of Twitter underlines:
I recently learned that some iPhone 14 panel and memory suppliers have been experiencing supply problems, but they should have little impact on the mass production of the iPhone 14 because other manufacturers may be filling the gap.
The analyst points out that as far as LPDDR5 memory is concerned, Samsung will be the main and almost the only supplier of the components in the third quarter of the year and will allow to increase production of the iPhone 14 Pro. Micron and SK Hynix will instead make a more significant contribution in the following quarter: the first because it is behind with the component certification process, the second because it has encountered quality problems during the production.
Panels side instead: Samsung Display and BOE will take care of the initial supplies filling the void created by the loss of the contribution of LG Display which is addressing the problems related to quality performance (mainly with screens intended for the iPhone 14 Max) – Kuo predicts however that LG Display will not take long to solve them.
Overall, there is therefore a certain optimism on the possibility that the new iPhones arrive without delay at the usual annual appointment. There may be limited inventories, especially if demand is indeed high, but overall Apple’s strategy of diversifying its suppliers could pay off once again. Kuo’s new speech echoes his previous one in which he denied Digitimes’ report of the 10% cut in iPhone processor orders at TSMC caused by the supply crisis.
