Google is working on bringing partial translations to Chrome
Google is working on revamping the built-in translation experience in Chrome, adding the ability for users to perform partial translations as wellthat is, specifically of the selected text, facilitating on the other hand the change between languages.
Interestingly, partial translations have been around for a while in competing Chromium-based web browsers like Microsoft Edge, but not in Google’s own web browser.
Currently, Google Chrome only allows to carry out the translation of all the content of a website, in addition to forcing users to deepen the configuration to add more languages between which to perform the translations.
A renewed experience with more possibilities with translations
There are times when a user usually finds part of the content of a website in a different language for different reasons, which makes it unfeasible to carry out the complete translation of the entire website if you only want to carry out the translation of that specific part. , to give an example of the usefulness of partial translations.
Google’s development work has been discovered by Reddit user Leopeva64, although as he notes in his post on the subreddit dedicated to Chrome, it is an experience that is not yet in the functional phase, available for now on the channel Chrome Canary.
In any case, once it is available, The user will be able to select the part they want to translate, being able to go to the new bubble icon that will be available in the address bar, or alternatively by clicking the right mouse button on the selected text and pressing the “translate to” option.
With the new experience the user will also have a series of languages to choose from to carry out the translation, and can easily change to another language, also including a drop-down list with all the languages supported by the Google translation service.
Users will have to wait until the new integrated translation experience ends up arriving in a future stable version of Chrome, benefiting users of different desktop platforms, including Chrome OS.
In this sense, we must remember that improvements were recently introduced in the translations in the version of Chrome for iOS, which makes us see that the company will continue working to eliminate language barriers in browsing sessions as much as possible.
