Gboard now supports split keyboard on foldable devices
Typing from your tablet or foldable device will no longer be a nightmare if you use Gboard, as it will have a new keyboard layout.
Just like the Samsung keyboard, Gboard is also starting to show a split keyboard to make it easier to type on these devices.
Gboard now lets you choose a split keyboard on foldable devices
Gboard has many interesting features that allow you to apply some keyboard tricks on mobile to type faster. But if we are on a tablet or folding device, the dynamics are different.
A few months ago we mentioned that Google was preparing a new design for its keyboard app, Gboard. An update that would improve the experience of users who write from the tablet or folding devices.
And finally, the Gboard beta reveals this new split keyboard design. As mentioned in 9to5Google, some users are already testing this new design on their devices, for example, Galaxy Fold.
To activate this new design, you just need to click on the split keyboard icon in the top toolbar of Gboard or from the app settings. As you can see in the image, the keyboard will be divided so that you can use it with your thumbs.
While the letters are spread across the two halves, some keys are duplicated for easy left- or right-handed use. A practical dynamic. One detail to keep in mind is that this update is not yet available to all users.
At the moment, it is only available in the beta version of Gboard and only for selected users. So we will have to wait for this new feature to come out of the testing phase and be extended to all users in a future update of the stable version of Gboard.
