Windows 11 ever closer to Macs with Apple M1, thanks to a new project

Although Microsoft is actively working to improve the user experience of the Windows 11 on ARM architecturesat the moment the Redmond operating system is not officially compatible with what is perhaps the largest computer ARM platform currently available on the market, namely the Apple Silicon M1 series chips.

In fact, it is currently very difficult to run the version natively Windows 11 ARM on any new Macwhich is why it is often easier to resort to alternative solutions such as virtualization (although there are some procedures to install it natively, but not for everyone), however it looks like things could change soon thanks to an amateur project which aims to significantly simplify the installation and execution of Windows 11 on Macs with M1.

WINDOWS 11 ON MAC M1: NOT A SIMPLE TASK

At the head of the project is Arminder Singh, a developer who has shared some interesting details, starting with which is why it is so difficult to bring Windows 11 to M1despite the Redmond OS can run without any problem on many Qualcomm chips, even on the Snapdragon 810 of Lumia 950 XL.

Underlying it all is the complexity of SoCs based on M1 architecture, which differ significantly from any other ARM chip on the market, Singh points out. In particular, it is noted how Apple’s solutions are very different from SoCs made by other companies that use standard ARM64 implementationsgiven that the Cupertino house has introduced many additional hardware components that require dedicated code that must be compiled specifically.

However, Singh points out that much of the work has already been done by the Linux communityespecially on the part of the project Asahi Linux, which has developed much of the code needed to natively run a Linux build on Macs with Apple Silicon. Despite this, Singh confirms that a lot of work will still be required before Windows 11 can be run properly completely stable on these Macs.

In short, there is still a little left at the time of the turning point e even Singh himself does not declare himself totally certain of being able to complete the project, although it is still likely that the community will be able to intervene once again in support of the developer, given the importance of his work.
