Apple today unveiled iOS 16 at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), providing information on which phones will be able to receive the update.
To download iOS 16 this fall, you will need an iPhone 8 or later, which means that iPhone 6S, iPhone 7 and the original iPhone SE are left out of iOS updates.
The iPhone 7 and iPhone SE were released in 2016, while the iPhone 6S was released in 2015, which means they have received nearly six and seven years of software support, respectively. It’s impressive compared to any Android device, although Samsung and Google have made significant progress lately.
The first-generation iPhone SE has recently been replaced by a 2022 model with the same design as the 2016 edition, so if you’re a 6S or SE owner who likes that size, you have an alternative.
Considering Apple’s current track record is something to keep in mind, the 2022 iPhone SE will likely see software updates for many years to come.
