Google Sites has been for a long time the home of websites of all kinds, with free hosting, ideal for those who are learning or who want to transmit information without worrying about programming HTML.
The problem is that classic Google Sites is not compatible with modern Google Sites, and Google gave a deadline for users to remake their sites using the new platform.
The deadline has now changed. Before it was June 1, 2022, now it is December 1, 2022, six more months of time. After that date, the remaining sites in the user’s domain will not be editable.
Then, on January 1, 2023, those sites will not be viewable unless they are converted to the new Google sites.
Google revamped the design of Google Sites in 2016, six years ago, but many people continue with the old system. Eliminating those sites is the only way that Google has found for there to be a migration to new technologies, since automatic migration cannot be carried out with a 100% guarantee of success, it has to be done by the user.
Google hasn’t explained why it extended the deadline again, but it’s probably due to the sheer number of existing sites still on the old version.
To migrate, go to the Classic Sites Manager and follow the steps to complete the process of converting individual classic sites to new Google sites. After January 2023 Google will replace every remaining classic site with a Takeout file, though it will try to turn every classic site into a new site, with little guarantee that it will succeed (which is why it asks users to do it themselves, to fix the bugs). possible problems during migration).
In this way, if you do nothing, Google will try to migrate the version and notify users when it is finished, but this process can take several months, depending on the number and complexity of the sites.
