The strategy of Meta (parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, among other Mark Zuckerberg businesses) to consolidate its virtual reality metaverse goes one step further by now announcing the integration of the Horizon Venues event experience platform on the platform virtual reality Horizon Worlds.
The Metaverse is a digital meeting point where different interactions can be integrated thanks to virtual reality
Until now, the two environments are accessible through differentiated applications, from now on they will be integrated into a single platform, which will allow them to continue using the same virtual avatars that their users already had. As a consequence of this integration, the Venues platform will disappear, as of January 6 of next year only Horizon Worlds will survive.
Horizon World, for now, is initially accessible to users in the United States and Canada, but Meta has already announced its plans to expand access to Horizon World to other countries after the summer.
On this platform, users can attend different events, from concerts to sports broadcasts, meditation sessions, comedy performances, in addition to users being able to host your own virtual meetings which can be accessed immersively thanks to Oculus virtual reality devices (also belonging to Meta).
However, a web version would also be under development that would allow other users who do not have Virtual Reality devices to access this online meeting environment. In fact, it is even advanced that in the future a version accessible from mobile devices could be developed.
Meta has been rehearsing for the past few months the merger of its two virtual portals Horizon Venues and Horizon Worlds to ensure that the user experience of both has no friction.
Finally, it should be remembered that Meta recently revealed that it is testing a tool that will allow content creators to sell virtual objects through these online environments. It would be one more way to expand the possibility of monetization in the business field of the flourishing virtual reality sector.
