It’s official: Android Auto for phones has its days numbered

If you are one of those who uses the Android Auto application when you sit down to drive in the car, there is news that is not good for you. This is not another one that has been made official that said app has its days numbered and, in addition, everything seems to indicate that it will not take long to be closed by Google.

It is true that from the Mountain View company it was already indicated that it had this intention, but surely more than one thought that it would finally rethink this and that, finally, it would leave it active (albeit with much less support). But finally this is not the case and with great message that appears when opening Android Auto on the mobile makes it clear that the days of this development are numbered. What can be read exactly what is indicated is that “it will stop being available soon”.

What does this mobile application offer

Taking into account the great obstacles that already exist to install it, because among other things it does not work in the latest versions of Android, what it provides is a full screen interface on which applications are run on a dedicated basis. An example of what we say is the Maps browser and even has the ability to control music playback with something as comfortable as the voice. In other words, it gives you the option to continue taking advantage of the options of your terminal in a safe way and without having to use cables for it.

The truth is that for a long time this work was practically abandoned, so there are not a few who do not understand the reason why the situation does not hold because they have an old smartphone that they use as a control center with Android Auto in their cars. Possibly by installing an APK with the development, this can continue to be done, but Google disclaims any responsibility, since support ends.

Smart Life

Is this a final goodbye to Android Auto?

No not at all. What is closed exclusively is the version that exists for mobile terminals. Therefore, development that runs directly on the car screens remains and that is where Google will focus its efforts. The truth is that it was practically already like that, but the smartphone application still had a thread of life left that is now clearly going to be cut sooner rather than later.

By the way, it is important to know that some options offered by Google in the native version for cars have to be improved or evolved. One example is that the possibility of using the google assistant, specifically the driving mode it offers. In addition, it would be positive if the version of the operating system of the Mountain View company is lowered to run Android Auto in vehicles, since it is requires 9.0 -and this is something that not everyone has-. Therefore, we will have to be attentive to the next movements of the North American company.
