Twitter users have been asking the company for the ability to edit tweets since practically the creation of the social network in 2006. However, this historic request has not been met by the company, which has traditionally refused to possibility of launching a button to edit tweets.

Twitter will not allow you to interact with a tweet that has been edited

However, times are changing on Twitter and as confirmed by the company itself a few weeks ago, they have been working on the possibility that tweets can be edited. The announcement came even before Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, confirmed the purchase of Twitter and his intention to permanently edit the tweets.

Since last April 1 Twitter confirmed the edition of tweets, the characteristics that this new functionality will have have been known by drops. Now, thanks to the work of app developer and researcher Nima Owji, a few more details are known about how tweet editing will work.

The main novelty is that Twitter users will have a counter that will allow them to have some time to edit the message. Although in the screenshot that the developer has shared the time of 30 minutes appears to edit the messageit is not known if it will finally be time or any other that is released when the possibility is enabled.

In other social networks, such as Facebook, there is no time limitation when editing messages. What is shown is a legend that indicates that the message has been edited, something that is not known if it will appear on Twitter.

What is known, however, is that when a message is edited, users will not be able to like, retweet or reply to the previous version of an edited tweet. This means that, practically, it will be as if that previous message was deleted, since users will only be able to interact with the modified version of the message.

In fact, it appears that Twitter will create a new record for the edited tweet, which will have its own URL and be completely different from the unedited tweet, which will retain its own record, although you won’t be able to interact with it.

What also appears is that the ability to edit tweets will be reserved for users who pay for it, becoming subscribers of Twitter Blue, Twitter’s premium service that will give access to this and other extra features.
