Technological products require maintenance to keep up to date by adding new features, correcting bugs or improving their security. Xiaomi it’s no different, with a series of major updates, usually on an annual basis, accompanied by minor, more fix-focused ones.
However, as with other brands, there comes a time when it is not worth continuing to allocate human and financial resources to maintain support for certain devices perhaps already somewhat obsolete and improved by later versions and models.
What is the “End of Service” phase?
Xiaomi’s policy for all its Internet of Things (IoT) product brands, including RedMi, Mijia, Mitu and Mijoy is the same: they generally keep security updates for at least 2 years after the first shipment of a certain model of device. The same applies to phone brands: Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO.

End of the road for many Xiaomi devices
Once this period expires, generally the teams stop offering official support, so the products enter the so-called “end of service” phase. From that moment on, the company allocates support resources to other newer models, those that will most need to be up-to-date, prioritizing them over those products whose specifications are beginning to be outdated.
“Xiaomi is committed to keeping all devices secure and running with the latest features in accordance with established best practices by providing firmware updates. within support timewhich include security updates, bug fixes, and new features.”
