Canada orders to remove Huawei and ZTE from the mobile phone network

In the field of telecommunications, more and more countries are moving towards the implementation of 5G technology in order to offer the population a better experience in the use of internet and mobile telephony services, as well as improve efficiency. of the different government systems for handling and processing the data.

Within this sector, Huawei and ZTE are companies specialized in the implementation of networks and services that make possible the interconnection of people and companies worldwide.

However, not everyone seems to like his work. One of them is Canada, which recently announced a veto imposed on both Chinese companies to operate in its territory.

In this sense, it was learned that Canada called on all companies established in the country to progressively cease the use of 4G and 5G services that were supported by the companies Huawei and ZTE, having as deadline the year 2024 and until 2027 to completely withdraw all LTE equipment belonging to any of those companies.

The announcement was released by Canada’s industry minister, Francois-Philippe Champagne during a press conference in Ottawa.

The reason behind this radical measure by Canada would be due to the fact that this nation wishes to provide its citizens with access to 5G technology within an environment that not only grants these better internet speed and connectivity, but also a safe environment, something Huawei and ZTE have been questioning for a while.

Already in 2019, the Canadian government had made public its concern regarding the implementation of 5G technology in terms of security, expressing the following:

The high level of interconnectivity and complexity in 5G networks means that exploits of vulnerabilities by malicious actors will be more difficult to safeguard, and that incidents will have a broader impact than in previous generations of wireless technology.

It is not surprising to see the accelerated effort of the Canadian government in optimizing the mobile internet infrastructure, taking into account the boom that the subscription to streaming services has had in the country.

As part of the countries that make up the group of five eyes (United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, United States), Canada was the only one on the list that had not yet taken the step of prohibiting Huawei operations in its territory.

Although Chinese smartphones are affordable to purchase, these have privacy issues which would make it justifiable that their manufacturers be banned from the country where they are being marketed.
