Each year, Acer presents its innovations at its Next@Acer conference. In 2022, the focus was on ecology as well as the arrival of OLED. The star of the conference was the Swift 3which wants to offer the best at a fair price.

In the Acer stable, the Swift 3 has always been the affordable ultra-portable, who seeks to offer the best value for money. This 2022 version keeps this course, but no longer wants to be in the shadow of its big brother, the Swift 5 and 7.

Acer bets on OLED with its Swift 3

The Acer Swift 3 is an ultra-portable with a 14-inch OLED screen (ratio 16:9) of a definition in 2.8K. The screen also has a refresh rate of 90 Hz. Having an OLED panel brings many advantages, such as higher contrast and better brightness. Technology is slowly taking hold in the PC world and the Swift 5 wants to be part of it. It is no longer reserved for premium products!

Inside we find an Intel Core processor of 12e generation and for connectivity, two USB Type-A ports, two USB Type-C ports and an HDMI port. We stay on a mid-range ultra-portable with an aluminum and plastic chassis that does not rely on its finesse or its lightness, but on its effectiveness. We were able to take it in hand and we can say that the result is convincing, especially for a product at 1000 euros (starting price). It will hit shelves in July.

Acer also introduced other products, like the Predator Helios 300 SpatialLabs Edition. This gaming PC uses the technology introduced on the Concept D range: it is therefore equipped with a 3D panel without glasses. We had been able to try it, and the result is stunning. The screen is equipped with eye-tracking sensors to provide a very realistic 3D effect. We are a long way from Nintendo 3DS!

This Helios 300 SE therefore has a 15-inch panel (4K, 60 Hz) which allows you to have this 3D effect. Acer indicates that this technology is compatible with over 50 AAA games for the moment. Moreover, an integrated software called Spatials Labs Go allows to give a 3D effect on any 2D content. The uses are therefore endless. To run it all, the manufacturer included an Intel Core i9 12e generation in his PC, 32 GB of RAM and an RTX 3080.

It’s not really a ‘flagship’ PC, but more of a demonstration of what Acer can do and a preview of what might be in store for cheaper products in the future. Because yes, such technology has a cost. The Predator Helios 300 SE will be sold from September at a price of 3300 euros minimum.

Vero, green computers

Finally, Acer presented the new products of its Vero range. We have two laptops of 14 and 15 inches, first of all: the Aspire Vero. They are equipped with an Intel Core processor of 12e generation. Their particularity is to have a chassis made from 100% recycled materialsmade with plastic recovered from the oceans.

In addition to these PCs, Acer presented the all-in-one Veriton Vero, 23- and 27-inch Vero screens as well as peripherals (mouse, keyboard, mouse pad), also made with recycled materials.

Acer is betting heavily on ecology in the future, and not just with Vero PCs. More and more of its products are made in part with recycled material.
