WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform owned by Meta, continues to work on new features designed to make the user experience more and more personalized and engaging.

In the first part of the year, the app welcomed numerous significant news that shaped its user experience and introduced loved functions and other controversial; Before starting with today’s news, we advise you to take a look at our Recap of the four most interesting (and annoying) news of WhatsApp in 2025.

Apparently the development team of the instant messaging app would be about to put their hand to an often neglected detail: the “info” section of the profile. And the incoming news are not trivial. There is talk of a renewed section in which Insert customized temporary updates.

A possibility that could change the way users communicate their state, their business and interact with the info section, often neglected.

WhatsApp will welcome a new temporary “info” section: how it will work

According to what emerged in the version 2.25.21.17 by WhatsApp Beta for Android, currently available on the Google Play Store, WhatsApp would be developing a function that will allow you to Make temporary information entered in the “Info” section of your account.

In the current version of the app, the “info” section is often used to indicate a thought, a quote, an EMOJI or a mood and, in general, it is a space of the somewhat immobile, immutable app; The possibilities of customization are reduced to the bone: you can change the phrase in the info and little else.

With the updating in development, however, users can choose to automatically expire the “info” after a pre -established period of time.

As shown by a screen included in the Beta version (via Wabetainfo), the new function will include default options (for example: 1 hour, 8 hours, 1 day), but also the possibility of personalizing the time interval exactly according to your needs.

This means that a user can, for example, set up a message that remains visible only during a weekend out of town or a work commitment, automatically disappearing at the end of the event.

In addition to the possibility of setting up a deadline, WhatsApp is working to make the section “info” even more visible and integrated into the user interface.

Interface side, in the new implementation, The set message will appear directly in the upper part of the conversationunder the name of the contact, making the content easily legible and immediately accessible even during a chat; A detail that could help provide further context within the conversation.

This change is part of a larger WhatsApp project aimed at transforming the app not only into a communication tool, but in a real personal or work space, based on needs.

As the app has often accustomed us, a fundamental aspect of the new temporary “info” system is the protection of user privacy.

WhatsApp confirmed that This information will be managed entirely on the user’s device. No data relating to the expiry of the EP, nor the content of the same, will be shared with the WhatsApp servers or with other users, not even with those who participate in the chat.

Furthermore, Only contacts authorized according to the user’s privacy settings will be able to view the temporary “info”.

This means that it will be possible to share thoughts or updates with restricted groups of people, avoiding that certain information will reach anyone.

After all, the concept of temporary state is not new in the world of messaging apps: just think of the Instagram stories or the same “state” of WhatsApp, visible for 24 hours.

However, applying the same logic to the “info” section adds a more discreet level of control; In practice, we are talking about a form of microcomunication Designed for those who want to share a temporary info with someone without necessarily publishing.

A useful tool to leave a contextual message, to report your availability, to indicate an ongoing event, without having to delete it manually or risk that it remains visible too long.

At the moment, the new function is being developed and available only for a limited number of beta testers on Android.

It is not yet clear when it will be distributed to all users, but considering that it is a test phase, it is likely that the release on the stable channel takes place in the coming months.
