In practice, the WhatsApp team is evaluating the implementation of a functionality that will allow users to view additional information for each state update.
The idea is to provide a quick preview of some contacts that displayed the state, without the need to open the complete list of viewers and, similarly to Instagram, the recent viewers will be shown as small profile icons at the bottom of the screen, together with the number of contacts that displayed the state update. This novelty aims to make the most interactive state updates overall.
In addition, WhatsApp plans to show the privacy settings used for each specific state update (this as it is possible to select different types of public for each of them and it may be difficult to remember which contacts have been included in a particular state), making the management of those who can view the content easier.
