The concept of wearable devices could be destined to change radically: Samsung It is in fact evaluating new hardware solutions based onartificial intelligenceimagining smart accessories such as earrings or necklaces capable of offering intelligent features, without the need to bring out the smartphone.

To talk about this futuristic vision was Won-Joon Choi, one of the managers of the mobile division of Samsungduring an interview granted to CNN. According to Choi, artificial intelligence represents a concrete opportunity to create devices that do not carry with them but that are worn on their body. The goal is as usual to further simplify the interaction between human being and technology, with increasingly invisible but perfectly integrated solutions in everyday life.

Smart rings are already a reality nowadays (see Galaxy Ring), but the idea of Samsung It is to create new intelligent accessories capable of supporting the smartphone, reducing the number of interactions necessary with the screen. Artificial intelligence can in fact lead to new methods of use based on voice or context, which are well suited to be inserted in discreet objects such as, precisely, Necklaces or earrings.

The market goes in that direction but the challenge is difficult

The market always looks with greater interest in “alternative” wearable devices, which go beyond the simple smartwatch to be worn on the wrist. A striking example are the intelligent glasses of Ray-Ban And Halfwho have exceeded 2 million units sold since launch. Also Google is investing more and more in the same area, while Openai He is actively working with a former designer of Apple on a project still wrapped in mystery and always linked to artificial intelligence.

The same Samsung He has been working on his own model of smart glasseseven if no more details are available for now. At the same time, Choi has hinted that the Korean giant does not exclude the development of smart accessories in the form of earrings, rings or necklaces, while emphasizing that nothing similar will arrive in the immediate future.

In fact, the market has already shown that not all solutions are appreciated by the general public: an example is the case of the humane at the PIN, a wearable device equipped with IA designed to replace the smartphone, which has been completely abandoned after a problematic launch and a negative welcome. The same happened for the Rabbit R1, while Friend’s debut, an IA necklace with assistant functions, was sent back to the second half of 2025.

Samsung However, it seems to want to follow a more prudent road, focusing on devices that do not replace the smartphone but rather it support in everyday life. As already mentioned and hinted by Choi himself, the company is exploring different possibilities and it cannot be excluded that some prototypes are already in circulation within the Korean giant. However, it remains to be seen if and when such a device arrives on the market.
