There’s no point in beating around the bush, OnePlus is late: the Chinese manufacturer promised that it would release updates for its popular smartwatches by the end of Q3 2025, but the beginning of October means that owners of OnePlus Watch 2 And Watch 2R they will have to be patient even before receiving Wear OS 5 and leads one to think that not even the release of Wear OS 6 for the newest OnePlus Watch 3 it will be particularly fast, in fact the manufacturer has even confirmed it.

OnePlus Watch 2 and 2R: there is no trace of Wear OS 5

OnePlus Watch 2 and OnePlus Watch 2R had inaugurated a lucky season for the Chinese company in the smartwatch market thanks to the winning recipe made of a double hardware architecture (Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 and BES2700) for as many operating systems, to the full advantage of autonomy. The two smartwatches were launched with Wear OS 4 and in unsuspecting times – precisely on the occasion of the launch of the subsequent Watch 3 – the parent company had promised the release of the Wear OS 5 update by the third quarter of this yearbut evidently failed to keep his word.

In the same circumstance, OnePlus had put the expected software support for its smart watches: the OnePlus Watch 2 will receive 3 years of operating system updates, stopping at Wear OS 6, and 3 years of quarterly security patches until 2026; OnePlus Watch 3 will come up to Wear OS 7 and up to 2027 with security updates.

Well, failure to comply with the first promise also raises some doubts about the others, or at least about the timing.

OnePlus Watch 3, 2, 2R: the manufacturer clarifies the upcoming updates

In light of the situation, the manufacturer deemed it appropriate to immediately clarify things and did so through the words of one of its spokespersons Android Authority:

Wear OS 5 will arrive on the OnePlus Watch 2 in the near future, while the arrival of Wear OS 6 on both OnePlus Watch 2 and OnePlus Watch 3 is scheduled for 2026”.

OnePlus has also ensured its commitment with regards to quarterly security updates: the delay of the latest update for the Watch 2 would have depended precisely on the coincidence with the release of Wear OS 5.

This, in short, is the not exactly exciting truth about OnePlus, while in the meantime owners of Pixel Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch can already enjoy the latest version of Wear OS.
