The update to Android 15 has arrived on almost all updated devices, but in the Google house we have already thought about the software release of the future for some time: we are obviously talking about Android 16, of which we now know almost everything. The wait is palpable, above all because, software novelty aside, there is a release (in a stable version) for the Google Pixels already in June, well before usual.
As a result, even a brand certainly not famous for the speed of updates such as Motorola should start to heat the engines to bring the new version of the green robot operating system on its devices. However, for many smartphones and tablets of the winged house, the path of updates of the operating system seems to have come to the terminus, excluding them in fact from Android 16.
The (unofficial) list of Motorola smartphones that may not receive Android 16
With the approach of the release of Android 16 in a stable version, it is natural to ask whether your Motorola device will be among the lucky ones to receive the upgrade or if, on the contrary, it will have to “stop” at the previous versions. We therefore prepared a list, based on the current Motorola software policy and on some inevitable conjectures (pending official communications), the devices that they will hardly see Android 16.
It is essential to underline that Motorola has not yet officially confirmed Which devices will receive Android 16 and which are not. The following list is therefore the result of an analysis of the company’s current updating policy.
Motorola Edge series:
- Motorola Edge 40
- Motorola Edge 40 Neo
- Motorola Edge+ (2023)
- Motorola Edge (2022)
- Edge models more dated
Motorola Razr series:
- Motorola Razr 2022
- Motorola Razr (the original folding model)
- Razr models more dated
Motorola Moto G series:
- Moto G Stylus 5G (2024) / G Stylus 5G (2023)

These Motorola smartphones and tablets, in all probability, will not receive Android 16 or future updates of the operating system. If your device is on this list, the advice is still that of Wait for official communication from Motorola before evaluating a possible passage to a more recent model.
Motorola’s updating policy: a “mess” that disappoints users
We now arrive at a sore point: the Motorola software update policythat calling “confusing” is almost an euphemism. Take for example the recent Edge 50 Pro (here our review) and Edge 50 Neo, for which software updates are promised for five generations; Too bad that the newest models of the Edge 60 family, according to the official information communicated directly by the company, will only receive three. Ideally, you would expect long -lived software support on the most recent models, or at least in line with the previous generation. A step back, in this sense, is certainly not encouraging.
Even the Razr 60 Premium models, launched in April of this year, promise only three major updates of Android. The situation worsens drastically if we move towards the mid -range and the cheapest one, with most of the devices that stop, in the best case, to only two updates of the operating system.
But the most serious problem is that Motorola, for many models, he did not even clearly announce the future suitability for updates. And let’s not only talk about more dated devices, but also about recent models.
Software support is now a crucial factor in choosing a new smartphone, and Motorola cannot afford to stay behind. We will see if there will be steps forward in this sense.
