Google started the rollout of A couple of news already known For Gmailyour e -mail client as well as the predefined app for e -mail on most Android devices.
The app is making available to all users a new shortcut in notifications and the expressive Redesign that changes the user interface, even if not in its entirety. Let’s find out all the details.
Gmail for Android: there are two nice news in Rollout
As anticipated at the opening, Gmail started receiving a couple of news already known with the version 2025.08.04 of the app for Android. The first concerns the shortcut Score how Letta of which we had heard already at the end of June.
The rollout of this shortcut seems to involve all users, with Score how Letta which in notifications will appear in the center between Elimine (or Architedepending on which option you chose as a default) and Answers. When we make a tap on the new shortcut, the notification will be reduced to a simple “Marked as already read”with the possibility of canceling the operation thanks to the button Cancel.
A little less widespread, however, is the expressive redesign which reaches the app one month and a half from the first evidence of the end of June. As you can see from the following image, the search bar It is thicker, it was repositioned in the center and the hamburger menu and the Avatar of the Google account have been moved out.
In general, it seems that compared to the past, the dynamic colors have been “inverted”: as a light background and dark search bar, we pass with a dark background and a clear search bar (the situation turns upside down with the dark theme). The “write” floating button is more compact.
Going further, the various emails and email alerts to read in the various categories (promotions, updates and so on) are enclosed within a large card (or container), a distinctive element of Material 3 Expressive. All the items are then separated from each other by a horizontal line. The large container does not extend from the board on board but has a margin both on the left and on the right.
The animation connected to the Scrolling gestures: In the new version, the action connected to the gesture occurs as a circular icon that is widening as we scroll, keeping the shape of a pill while and “moving” the email card which instead has a rectangular shape with rounded corners.
Finally, we point out that (at least in our case) the app settings have maintained the old design: therefore, in all respects, it is still a partial Redesign that will be completed later.
The first part of the expressive redesign is reaching all users of Gmail for Android following a gradual rollout side server: We don’t know how long it takes to reach everyone but it is good to check that the latest version of the app is installed on your device.
