Iliad announces a new agreement that strengthens its sustainable commitment: the operator has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) lasting 10 years for the supply of electricity produced by renewable sources Starting from 1 January 2026. The agreement represents a further step in the Iliad path towards the sustainability and adds to the one announced last year.
Iliad announces the agreement with Metlen for renewable energy
The new supply of clean energy will come from a new photovoltaic park in the province of Latina, with a total power of 15.2 megawatts, and derives from the agreement with Metlen Energy & Metals, a Greek multinational leader in the energy and metallurgy sectors. Through almost 25,000 solar panels, the agreement will guarantee about Iliad 20 Gigawattara a year of energy from renewable source: these are the same amount of energy necessary to cover the average annual consumption of more than 7400 families of 4.
“This new agreement represents a further step in our path to sustainability and adds to the one announced last year, approaching the objective to cover 50% of our direct consumption with renewable energy by 2035 via PPA“, He said Benedetto LeviCEO of Iliad. “We continue to act concretely to reduce our impact on the climate and contribute to the energy capacity of the whole country”.
The PPA will save the issue of 49,200 tons of CO2EQ In the 10 years of duration of the agreement, and confirms the operator’s commitment after the first PPA announced in February 2024: the two PPAs will offer an annual production of 68 GWh of renewable energy. Iliad’s goal is to reach the finish line of the 90% reduction of emissions by 2050, one of the group objectives validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTI) in 2024. The operator also contributes to achieving commitment no. 8 of the 10 climate commitments made by the group in 2021, “Contribute to creating greater renewable energy capacity“.
“This agreement with Iliad represents a fundamental operation for our Italian portfolio and a model for future company partnerships in support of the energy transition of Italy“, Commented Nikos Papapetrou, executive director of M Renewables, Metlen.”He demonstrates our commitment to provide competitive and clean energy to end users, while accelerating national climate objectives“.
Iliad’s commitment also leaves national borders: in recent months the operator has signed two new PPA in France and one in Poland: with these, the group has 8 renewable energy projects in Europe, with a total capacity of 166.2 megawatt and a saving of about 580,000 tons of CO2 for the entire duration.
Thanks to the PPA, the group reaches a production of approx 219 Gigawattora of renewable energy per year, corresponding to the amount of energy necessary to cover the average annual consumption of a city like Bari. In this way, by 2027 15% of the direct electricity needs of the group will be covered by renewable sources.
