HUAWEI democratizes foldable clamshell smartphones with the new nova Flip S

A few hours ago, HUAWEI made the new clamshell leaflet official on the home market HUAWEI nova Flip Ssequel to the smartphone launched in August 2024 from which it inherits the design and most of the specifications.

The real “revolution” compared to the previous generation model lies in the price, which is decidedly lower: the Chinese manufacturer has therefore decided to democratize foldable smartphones. Let’s find out all the details.

HUAWEI nova Flip S is official

Within the HUAWEI catalogue, the nova range represents the one that offers the cheapest but no less interesting smartphones. For example, last year the Chinese manufacturer enriched the range with a leaflet whose only “flaw” was that it cost too much.

The new HUAWEI nova Flip S represents the sequel to that leaflet and, at the new price chosen by the Chinese manufacturer, it becomes a completely different device. Virtually nothing changes on the design front and on the specifications front, with just a few small tweaks here and there and the addition of two new colors.

Dimensions and thickness remain unchanged, just as the displays of the predecessor remain the same: outside we have a OLED from 2.14 inches useful as quick access to apps or real-time updates; inside we have a LTPO OLED from 6.94 inches with FHD+ resolution, adaptive refresh rate up to 120 Hz and high-frequency PWM dimming.

On the camera side, the HUAWEI nova Flip S offers an internal camera from 32 megapixels and a dual rear camera system, with main sensor from 50 megapixels and ultra-wide-angle sensor from 8 megapixels. There is support for video recording up to 4K at 30 fps.

The device is powered by a chip HiSilicon Kirin but, as usual, HUAWEI does not declare the precise model: previous rumors suggested the presence of a new chip called Kirin 8030weakened version of the Kirin 9020 found on the HUAWEI Mate XTs Ultimate Design as well as heir to the Kirin 8020 present on the HUAWEI nova 14 Ultra.

Net of the unspecified chip, the smartphone has 12GB of RAM memory and 256 or 512GB of storage space (the 1 TB cut disappears compared to the predecessor) and offers a very respectable connectivity sector (we have support for 5G networks and Wi-Fi 7 among other things).

HUAWEI nova Flip Swhich debuts on the home market with HarmonyOS 5.1 on board, integrates a 4,400 mAh and supports wired fast charging 66 W. As usual on foldable devices, the fingerprint reader is integrated into the on/off button. Finally, we would like to point out that the zip system (designed to reduce the visibility of the crease) is certified by SGS for 1.2 million openings.

Availability and prices of HUAWEI nova Flip S

HUAWEI nova Flip S it is already available for purchase in China, where it is offered in six finishes (Feather Sand Black, NewGreen, Sakura Pink, Sky Blue, Star Black And Zero White) and in two memory denominations, offered at the following prices on the home market:

• Cut from 256GB at the price of 3,488 yuan (around 419 euros)
• Cut from 512GB at the price of 3,788 yuan (around 455 euros)

HUAWEI is trying to push this foldable on the home market, proposing it as a much cheaper device than its predecessor, which started at 5,288 yuan (around 635 euros), while keeping the substance unchanged. However, there is little chance that the device could be sold outside the Chinese market, especially in our area.
