After months of rumors and small clues scattered between the beta versions of the telephone app, Google could finally be ready to simplify the management of vocal recordings on its pixel devices. In particular, attention is all paid to the function Call notes (Call Notes) introduced with the Pixel 9 series, which currently allows users to record, transcribe and obtain an ia summary summary, but only after having manually activated it during each individual conversation (it is not available from us).
A method that, as easily intuitive, is not always practical especially if you intend to use the function in a regular or professional basis; The good news? Google finally seems to work on a more fluid and integrated solution, the Automatic call registration.
Google at work on the automatic recording of calls with call Notes
The change was identified by the tireless codes hunter Assembradebug In the Beta V172.0 version of the Google Telephone app, the option previously called “Automatic call notes” was modified in “Automatic call registration”; A no small difference, which marks a transition from the automation of the summary (never really implemented) to automatic management of the actual recording.
The settings shown in the test version are simple but potentially very useful:
- Automatically records unknown numbers
- Automatically record these numbers (with the possibility of customization)

These voices remember very closely those already available in the recording function of the Google telephone app in other countries of the world, where local law allows it; However, in the United States, the classic recording function is not available, although in many states it is still legal to record a phone call subject to at least one of the parties in most cases).
What Google seems to want to do, therefore, is to circumvent the limit imposed at the Region level using the call notes function as “container” to implement automatic registration. To date, to record a call on Pixel 9, users must manually touch the appropriate button during the conversation, after which they can access complete transcriptions, summary generated by the AI and other synthetic tools.
With the arrival of automatic registration, all this could be managed without manual intervention, at least for calls falling within the criteria set by the user; However, it is good to underline that the modification of the name and settings does not imply an imminent release, the function is still in the experimental phase and, in the past, Google has already declared that some codes relating to automatic registration were exclusively intended for internal tests.
At the moment, automatically activate registration does not equate to automatically generate transcriptions or summary, these remain optional features to be activated manually, even if nothing prohibits that they can be connected later, once the registration has been saved.
It is not even clear whether and when the function will be officially launched, nor if an exclusive of the Pixel 9 range remain, however, the fact that the settings are still present in the app and that they have been updated in such an explicit way suggests that something is actually moving; Considering also the proximity of Google I/O 2025, it is legitimate to assume that Big G may reveal some more details on that occasion.
US users, at least for now, will have to continue to rely on the manual procedure to activate the call notes, but the road to a more intelligent and integrated system seems to be traced. If automatic registration really comes, it would be one of the most concrete and useful innovations for those who use pixels in working contexts, customer care or simply wants to keep track of their calls in a non -intrusive way.
