The “real -time updates” arrive on Google Maps

While at the beginning of the month there was only talk of reports of Pixel users (with preview versions of the operating system) and Samsung users (with Android 16), probably for a sort of limited test, now Google has moved on to the facts, starting the distribution of the support to Real -time updates On Google Maps.

When we start a navigation via the app, just return to the initial screen, cest the pop-up (or picture-in-picture) for the navigation that will appear at the bottom right (holding down and dragging it towards the “X” at the bottom in the center) and the game is done.

The notification will change “style”, going from normal notification to notification within a chip (that oval pill that is seen high in the screenshot below). By making a tap on this chip, the pop-up will be opened that shows the progress of this update in real time.

By carrying out prolonged pressure on the notification, the system will give us confirmation of the fact that it is a real -time update. As you can see both from the previous image and from the following image, the progress bar varies according to the type of navigation.

For example, while with navigation on foot (image below) the bar is “continuous”, in the car navigation (previous image) the bar is outlined to highlight possible hitches or more intense traffic along the way.

Google Maps V25.37.00 - Real -time updates (on foot) on Android 16

We received this news on Pixel smartphones, regardless of the fact that they perform Android 16 QPR1 Stable, one of the beta of Android 16 QPR2 or Android Canary, with the version 25.37.00 Of Google Maps (even if the subsequent version 25.38.02 of the app is already distributed).

The rollout, as (more and more) often happens, is gradual and takes place on the server side. For this reason, so that all users with Android 16 (and the system support for real -time updates) can count on this novelty could spend a few days or a few weeks.
