Google continues to strengthen the integration between its services and, after having repeatedly improved the experience of managing multimedia files on Drive, now introduces a shortcut that aims straight to productivity; Workspace users can now Open the videos stored on Drive directly in Google Vidswithout having to start them manually.

Fast video editing and clicks on Google Drive
The novelty concerns the preview of the videos saved on Google Drive, once the file in the upper right corner has started a New button Openwhich allows you to immediately start the selected content in Google Vids. From there you can make the classic quick changes made available by the platform, such as cutting clips, adding text, insert background music or take advantage of other basic assembly functions.
A simple but significant change, which reduces the necessary steps for those who work daily with multimedia content and allows you to move from preview to the modification with a single gesture.
The connection to Google Vids is active by defaultThis means that users will find the shortcut already enabled, while the administrators of the Workspace organizations will possibly deactivate it if not deemed necessary.
The rollout of the function started yesterday but, as often happens with the Google targeted news, it could take up to two weeks before reaching all compatible accounts.
This integration represents only the last piece of a path that Google has been carrying out for some time, to make Drive an increasingly complete tool in managing multimedia content. Just think of the introduction of the new video reader in October 2024, designed to improve fluidity and compatibility, or to the most recent functions based on Gemini capable of automatically summarizing the videos uploaded to Drive and presented last May.
The shortcut towards Google Vids therefore fits into a wider strategy, which aims to transform Drive from a simple cloud archive to the work platform and integrated creation.
Workspace users will therefore have to patient a few more days to receive the update, but the arrival of the shortcut at Google Vids will only increase usability and operational speed. It remains to be understood if Google will decide to further push on the accelerator by introducing more advanced editing functions, perhaps enhanced by artificial intelligence, to make Drive and Vids increasingly central tools in the daily workflow.
