Android continues to work on small but significant improvements in the user experience, even in those areas that most people do not use daily; These include the so -called hidden menus, accessible through some secret codes of the dialer. Just in these hours, thanks to the analysis of the Canary version of Android 16, a novelty emerged that aims to make one of the most used diagnostic menus by advanced users lighter and tidy.

Android 16 Canary renews the ## 4636 ## menu

If you have ever digged ## 4636 ## On the telephone keypad of your Android smartphone, you will know that this special code allows you to access a diagnostic screen called Information on the phone; From there you can consult technical details on the network, force the blockage of a certain standard (3G, 4G or 5G), view use statistics and Wi-Fi information.

Until now, however, all these data were presented on a single page, often rather chaotic to flow, especially on devices with numerous sensors and network options. With Android 16 Canary, Google has decided to intervene introducing a new item called Information on phone V2which completely reorganizes the structure of the menu.

As you can see from the images in the gallery above, the single screen of the past has been divided into four distinct cardseach dedicated to a precise thematic area:

  • Device details -> collects the basic information on the hardware and on the state of the device, such as IMEI, signal power and other identification parameters
  • Data and Network -> includes all information relating to active cellular connection, with details on the selected network, available technologies and connection priority
  • Satellite -> one absolute novelty which suggests how Android is preparing spaces dedicated to future satellite communication services, the card, currently empty or with minimal information, will probably be updated when producers will implement native support for satellite connectivity
  • IMS -> Dedicated to the Multimedia Subshystem IP, the system that manages calls times, advanced messaging (RCS) and other multimedia services on the data network

As always, Google has not provided official information on these changes, but the modular organization suggests the will to simplify the information consultationespecially with a view to quick diagnostics and managing devices in professional contexts.

At first glance you might think that these are a simple graphic restyling, in reality the choice to fragment the menu in multiple cards is far from trivial, it allows more experienced users to immediately identify the desired section without having to slide long lists of parameters; It also lays the foundations for the support of emerging technologies such as direct communication with satellites, which in the coming years will become a key element for emergency connectivity and coverage in remote areas. In addition, it contributes to greater terminological clarity, given that Android tends to gradually integrate new options that risk confusing the average user.

The reorganization of the menu is currently available only in the Android 16 Build Canary, before the change arrives in a stable update will probably take a few months, especially considering that Google tends to release these changes gradually.
