With the spread of features based on artificial intelligence, all giants in the technological sector have started to develop their own solutions and this also includes Meta, which has studied various features IA, one of which has landed now on WhatsApp.

We refer to the function that introduces the backgrounds based on artificial intelligence, in order to allow users to customize the camera and video calls with creative visual elements, all with the support of Meta Ai.

A new IA for WhatsApp function

The popular instant messaging service has announced the introduction of the backgrounds generated by artificial intelligence, i.e. a new option that is able to replace the real background when using the camera.

With the backgrounds generated by artificial intelligence, instead of having to choose between a series of predefined options, users will have the opportunity to create unique and personalized images based on their imagination, thanks to Meta Ai, which is capable of transforming the suggestions written into images to be used just as background.

To apply a background generated by the AI, simply follow the same procedure to take advantage of the other visual effects of WhatsApp: users will have to open the camera, touch the button for the “special effects”, select the backgrounds and choose the option to create with artificial intelligence, describing the desired background in a few words (Meta Ai will therefore generate a real -time image).

Once confirmed, the new background will immediately replace the real environment visible on the camera and the system will not only work when using the camera but also during video calls.

The WhatsApp team is keen to clarify that the addition of backgrounds generated by artificial intelligence does not affect the safety of personal messages or calls (which continue to count on the protection of encryption end-to-end).

The developers recall that, as for any functionality based on artificial intelligence, cases could occur in which the generated images are not accurate or are not fully in line with the user’s description.

At the moment, the backgrounds generated by Meta Ai are available only for a limited number of users in some languages ​​(including English, Arabic, French, Hindi, Indonesian, Portuguese, Spanish, Thai and Vietnamese). The WhatsApp team planns to gradually expand the functionality to expand the audience of potential users.
