As already anticipated in the first months of the year, and in full consistency with the growing attention that Google is reserving for long -term maintenance of the Pixel devices, in the last few hours new tests have emerged on the continuation of the works for the implementation of the option Battery health assistance; A novelty that aims to improve the energy management of pixels over time, with direct benefits on longevity and battery performance.
The novelties were identified by analyzing the code of the latest version of the Settings app (V1.1.0.760434021), within which new strings of code have been found that describe the functioning of the new setting; Obviously, since it is something still in the development phase, before its actual release Google could make a whole series of changes.
How the assistance to the health of the pixel battery works
According to reports, this new option would be designed to help maintain the health of the battery as this ages, intervening dynamically on two fundamental parameters: the maximum voltage and the charging speed.
In concrete terms, the pixel operating system will apply one gradual reduction in the maximum voltage according to the accumulated charge cycles from the device, with an interval that goes from 200 to 1,000 cycles, in an attempt to stabilize performance over time and contain the chemical wear of the battery; In parallel, The charging speed will be adapted to the residual capacityto reduce electric stress as the accumulator ages.
At the communicative level Google clarifies that the side effect of this optimization will inevitably be a slight decrease in autonomy over timewhich however must be read as a controlled and physiological consequence, aimed at delaying as much as possible the need to replace the battery itself.
The new setting will be enabled by default on Pixel 9a and will not be deactivated manuallyusers will therefore not have the opportunity to decide whether or not to use this option, which will be an integral part of the energy management of the device; different speech instead For previous pixels models, for which Google has confirmed its intention to introduce the option as functionality that can be activated or manually deactivated.
Use Battery Health Assistance
Turn off Battery Health Assistance?
The goal is therefore twofold, on the one hand automatically protecting the most recent devices, on the other hand offering users in possession of a more dated Pixel Smartphone Pixel, capable of consciously managing the aging of the battery, without however imposing unilateral choices in this case.
It is worth remembering that with Pixel 8a and subsequent Google has raised the bar in terms of average battery life, the new models are designed to maintain up to 80% of the capacity for about 1,000 charging cycles, against the 800 cycles of the previous models. The introduction of battery health software assistance is therefore part of a coherent path, oriented to prolong the efficiency and usability of the devices over time, also with a view to sustainability and containment of maintenance costs.
Despite the presence of the new code strings mentioned above, currently the setting is not yet visible in Android 16 Beta 4.1 and QPR1 Beta 1; It is therefore not clear if it will be enabled with the first stable release or if it will be necessary to wait again.
