A few days ago, Google released the Beta 1.1 of Android 16 QPR1 on all the Pixel devices of the user recorded at the Android beta program. It is a corrective patch that resolves critics bugs present in the first beta of the development cycle.
In addition to the resolved bugs that the development team has highlighted in the release notes, this patch has finally solved a bug linked to the light/dark theme planning that afflicts smartphones and tablets of the Pixel range for some time and which was also present in Beta 1.
Android 16 QPR1: Beta 1.1 resolves a long course bug
Many Pixel users with Android 15 QPR2 have long experimented with a problem with automatic planning of the dark theme, the one that, if activated, causes the smartphone (or the tablet) steps from the clear theme to the dark theme automatically, or at times specified by the user or from dawn at sunset.
In a nutshell, with this bug the pixel “ignores” any type of planning, keeping the clear theme or dark theme manually set by the user. The only way to “switch” between the two modes is therefore to resort to the box in the center of the rapid commands or reach the dedicated section in the system settings (on the route “Settings> Display and touch> Dark theme“).
The same problem has long been present in the development cycle that is leading us to Android 16 (still not released on the stable but expected channel, with the safety patches of June 2025) and, as anticipated, was also present in the Beta 1 Released on 20 May to the Beta Tester (find all the news here).
The problem was reported by some online users, also on the platform Issuetracker of Android and, finally, was resolved with the Beta 1.1 last June 4: the same user who made the first report, published another post on Reddit to suggest the resolution of the problem.
The hope is that, identified the problem, Google develops it also in what will be released on the supported pixels (from Pixel 6 onwards) as the first stable release of Android 16 in the next few days.
