A few days ago we received the official confirmation of the fact that Google will release Android 16 in June (we do not yet know the day), even if for the big news expected (primarily the Redesign in view Material 3 Expressive There will be to wait).
The next version of Android will bring with it many news, some of which concern notifications: it seems that the development team is working on a tool based on artificial intelligence, called Magic Actionswhich will significantly improve the rapid actions offered by the notification system.
Android 16 will bring with him the “Magic Actions” for notifications
For years, Google has equipped the Android operating system with a functionality that enriches notifications with some quick actions to respond with a tap or carry out an action linked to the notification itself: from Smart Reply (arrived in Italy in the summer of 2020) at Smart Actions introduced with Android 10.
This functionality, currently known as Advanced notifications (at least on the pixels with Android 15), it offers users “Tips of shares, responses and more” to the reception of a notification. These are short suggestions, almost predefined, and not very contextual. The following video shows the functionality in action on Android 10.
According to what is identified by the well -known Insider Mishaal Rahman (via Android Authority), the Source Code of Android 16 hides some clues that suggest the development of an improved version of the Advanced notificationscalled in English Magic Actions (on the false line of other “magical” features such as Magic Eraser And Magic Editor).
What are Magic Actions?
These Magic Actions (who knows if in Italian they will be called Actions magical) will be generated by the system service Notification Assistant Service (part of the Android System Intelligence system app) and will take advantage of Gemini (therefore artificial intelligence) to make available to users more personalized rapid actions, contextualized and “powerful” than those proposed currently when a notification appears.
In addition to Magic Actionsthe Android 16 notification system (or its intermediate updates) will be able to count on other news based on artificial intelligence: from December last year, we know that a feature is in development that aims to automatically organize notifications in categories (Bundled Notifications); Since March of this year, however, we know that a summary of notifications has been in development.
These three news were not officially presented by Google, not even at The Android Show | I/O edition of a few days ago: the hope is that the Mountain View giant can speak openly at Google I/O 2025 next week, together with the many news that awaits us (find here the list of sessions of the annual developer conference).
