After the first experiments started in January, Google TV takes a further step forward in its path of integration of artificial intelligence within the daily television experience; In the last hours, in fact, the new “main news” features (also known as Briefs News) it is being released for some users with compatible Google TV devices, enriching the ambient mode with a selection of news generated and curated directly by Gemini, Google’s IA model.

Google TV receives a small information hub always active moved from the AI

The function in question (which for the record is still in the beta version) presents itself as A sort of digital press reviewdesigned to offer users a synthetic but updated overview of the most relevant news of the day, directly from the screen of their TV, without the need to open apps or navigate between the menus.

To activate it, simply access the settings of the ambient mode of your Google TV device (Streamer or Chromecast with Google TV), following the route Quick Settings Panel -> Screensaver -> Press down to change Screensaver -> Settingswhere, at the bottom of the menu, the new “Main news” option will be visible.

Once enabled, in the upper left corner of the screen the “Main news” tab will appear, characterized by a blue background; Each card shows a title (automatically generated by the AI starting from selected items among the main sources of information) accompanied by the date of publication.

By pressing the OK button on the remote control while the new card is highlighted, a whole screen interface opens up which reads a short summary of the news aloud; The text is also shown on the screen under the main title, thus guaranteeing an accessible and complete experience. In addition, scrolling through the arrow button downwards, you access a section that offers videos related to YouTube, thus offering further in -depth content for those who want to know more about a certain topic.

As specified by Google herself, the News Brief function is still in the experimental phase and, as such, it could contain inaccuracies or errors of evaluation by the AI; In addition, the proposed contents can also include news on violent or potentially disturbing events, which is why caution is recommended in the use especially in the presence of sensitive children or users.

Currently the function is available only on Google TV Streamer and Chromecast with Google TV (in the United States), while third -party devices are not yet compatible with this novelty; It is not clear at the moment if and when the Rollout will also be extended to the latter.

The debut of the Briefs news on Google TV represents, in fact, a further evolution of the approach promoted by Google, which aims to make information more and more accessible, immediate and integrated into the domestic environment; If on the one hand the choice to use Gemini to automatically take care of the contents opens interesting scenarios, on the other it will be essential to observe how the function will be welcomed by users and how much it will really replace (or support) more traditional methods of enjoying news, such as smartphones, tablets or smart speakers.

It will therefore be necessary to wait a little longer to see any future updates or improvements, but it is clear that this new functionality is part of a wider vision, in which artificial intelligence plays an increasingly central role in the way we access and interact with digital information.
