Google has released the third beta of Android 13, and while it doesn’t introduce any major new features, it does mark an important milestone in the development of the operating system ahead of the final release.
Google has just released the third Android 13 beta for supported Pixel phones. The new release comes almost a month after the second beta, right on time and in line with the company’s previously announced release schedule. This version is important, since thanks to it, Android 13 achieves platform stability.
This means that developer APIs and application performance on this next version of the operating system are final. Until the public release of the software in a few months, developers should now focus on compatibility and overall app quality, and fix the latest bugs. No major functionality should be introduced in the next betas.
What’s new for Android 13 beta 3?
Google’s Beta 3 blog post is filled with essential documentation for developers to ensure their app is compatible with all Android 13 changes and improvements. It also contains new documentation for large-screen devices like foldable smartphones and tablets. They cover changes to multi-window mode, taskbar interaction, and media streaming.
In terms of new features, the only major change seems to be improved copy-paste. There are also new Pixel Launcher settings that give users the ability to enable web suggestions. This feature displays suggested search phrases for web queries as you type your text. You can also click directly on new “Search YouTube” or “Search Maps” buttons when entering a Google search.
As a reminder, if you still haven’t tried Android 13, you will first need to make sure your smartphone is compatible. The list of eligible devices had recently grown significantly. If you have a high-end last generation smartphone, this one is probably compatible.
