Google has decided to close the Android Auto app, the one used by drivers who do not have a car with the latest version of Google Android and who have to use Android Auto on the screen of their mobile phones (that is, not integrated into the vehicle).

The move does not come as a complete surprise because a year ago Google already eliminated the use of the “Android Auto for mobile phone screens” app from devices that use version Android 12 of its mobile operating system. Instead, the company would redeem Google Assistant driving mode.
Now it does the same but with all users of the Android Auto app for mobile phones. All users will be redirected to Google Assistant Driving Mode. At the moment, what it does is display a warning message stating that «Android Auto for mobile phone screens will stop working soon«, without specifying when that time will be, but it already redirects your assistant.
At the moment, as we say, the application is active and can be used, but the warning message appears every time the app is activated. Google has confirmed the closure of the application, although it has not confirmed the date on which it will cease to be active.
According to the company, those who use Android Auto installed in their vehicles you will not notice any change. It is only those who use the mobile phone app who will experience the transition to the driving mode of the Google assistant.
This driving mode combines Google Maps with Google Assistant itself, and integrates half a dozen applications that make it look more modern than the Android Auto app and allow it to offer drivers -or co-drivers- practically the same features. Still, it’s not as well defined as Android Auto at the moment, although improvements are expected soon.
