Instagram is working on a new feature for creators who broadcast live videos. It will soon be possible to appoint a moderator who can monitor subscriber activity. The moderator will be able to block comments, delete certain messages and many other actions. Only downside: for the moment, there is only one moderator per stream.
If you use Instagram, you know that it is not just a social network based on sharing photos or videos with followers. More and more, Instagram is becoming a video live streaming platform. This function is called ” Instagram Live “. And it allows, as on YouTube or Facebook, to broadcast a video live to (tens or hundreds of) thousands of people at the same time.

The interest of “live” is twofold. First of all, a live video is a snapshot : fast, efficient. Then it offers a way tointeraction with subscribers. They can ask questions live or post comments. And the user can answer it during the video. Reactivity and interactivity: this is what best qualifies live videos. We have made several on our YouTube channel. And it was good times every time.
Instagram: soon moderators will filter comments during live videos
But, as with forums or comments, sometimes you have to face malicious comments (and not just negative). It is therefore necessary to have a “gendarme” who keeps watch. On Instagram, this function is not yet possible. But it should happen soon. Alessandro Paluzzi, an Italian developer and source code specialist, discovered traces of a future moderation function in the bowels of the latest version of Instagram.
This feature will allow an Instagram user who wants to broadcast a live video to appoint a moderator among other Instagram users. It can only be a user watching the live video. And there can only be one. The moderator will be able to manage the messages posted and activate the various social features of the live (answers, comments).
It is not said whether the moderator can also manage live participants: ban the author of malicious comments, accept requests from non-subscribers, etc. But this function will certainly have a positive impact on reducing the number of hate messages posted on the social network, in the same way as the filter which makes it possible to hide offensive private messages or the anti-harassment alert pop-ups which appear in the event of an insult.
