Netflix will charge you for each additional house you add to your account

Netflix remains firm in its new strategy to end shared accounts.

Already months ago, the Netflix team let it be known that it would charge more to users who share their account with users who are not members of their household. They started with a test in some countries, and now it is spreading to new territories with a new dynamic. We tell you what it is.

Netflix will charge for each additional house you add to your account

In the new test that Netflix will start testing from August, users will be asked to pay an additional fee when they want to share their accounts with a location other than their home. That is, if Juan wants to share his Netflix account with the neighbor from the other block or with his cousin who lives in another city, he will have to pay an additional fee to include those locations:

Starting August 22, 2022, when you sign in to Netflix on a TV outside of your home, you’ll see the option to add the additional household for an additional fee per month. If you’ll only be using this TV for a limited time, you can watch Netflix for up to 2 weeks at no extra charge […] After that time, the TV will be locked unless you add the additional household

Of course, each account will include a house (that of the owner) regardless of the plan that the user contracts. And then the number of additional houses the owner will be able to add will depend on the plan. For example, with the Basic plan you can only add one additional house, with the Standard plan up to two additional houses, and with the Premium plan you can add up to 3 additional houses.

And in order to manage this new dynamic, the Netflix application will add a new section, as you can see in the image above. In addition to setting the main house, you will be able to see all the houses you have added to your account, as well as the connected devices. And of course, you can disconnect the additional houses at any time.

The new Netflix test will only be implemented in a few countries: Argentina, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador and Honduras. How much will each additional house cost? As the Netflix team mentioned, users from these countries (except Argentina, which has another rate) will have to pay $2.99 per month for each additional house.
