The official YouTube app is getting an update these days with a new interface for the page Collection (Bookshelf). The main novelty is the farewell to the very long list of playlists in favor of a sideways scrollable carousel which makes the page more compact as a whole. The carousel is located immediately after the section Chronology, provided there are no Primetime channel subscriptions. The playlists dedicated to videos to watch later and those marked with a “Like” appear first, followed by up to eight others (for a total, therefore, of ten).
At the bottom of the list, whatever the length, there is a button to create a new playlist; if the account has more than ten playlists, there will be a button in the top right to see all of them. Provided the ability to sort playlists by two different criteria, alphabetical or chronological. Following this carousel are buttons that take you to your own videos, downloaded for offline viewing, and TV sections. For those who use playlists a lot, the new page might be a little more inconvenient, but for everyone else it’s definitely a more rational and sensible way to organize content.
As often happens, Google has not made any particular announcements relating to the novelty, so it is difficult to establish with certainty whether it is a test or an official roll-out for everyone; we lean more towards the second hypothesis, since we have a direct feedback on the Android app. However, there are reports overseas also for iOS. As always, it’s good practice to have the app updated to the latest version, but we suspect that some server-side input is also needed.
