Youtube Music, Material You themed icon renewed on Android 13 devices

Small news for Youtube Music and specifically about the Android version running on smartphones updated to the latest operating system. It has recently been introduced a minor restyling in a Material You key which will allow the icon to better fit and have better visibility, especially on Google’s Pixel devices.

The novelty is linked to the introduction of the unpublished ones Themed icons which is slowly gaining ground on devices updated with Android 13 or later. Even that of YouTube Music, like many others, is already colorless and will adhere to the monochrome icon settings of the Material You dynamic theme. At the moment most of the third-party skins have not yet fully implemented this function in previous versions of Android , therefore it is mainly visible on Pixel phones.

The change was first noticed by Android Police and while it is undoubtedly a minor novelty, it is worth mentioning. As can be seen from the two images above (the old one on the left, the new icon on the right) previously a dark circle with a smaller bright circle highlighted the “Play” button on YouTube. Now the central circle is smaller than the outer one, but the whole icon is larger and makes it easier to find, especially on displays littered with other elements. It is unclear how long this icon has changed, but it almost looks like the widget icon was picked up to replace the application icon. The only visual difference that is clearly perceptible is the presence of the darker edge.

Based on the Android 13 Theme Icons, the actual color will be determined by the Dynamic Color system, which will take the background color as a reference and change the hue according to the device settings. There are currently few applications that support themed icon settings, but the next few months should lead to more use as they are updated by developers.
