A couple of years ago, Microsoft announced that avatars would come to Teams, but this proposal took longer than expected, and users still don’t have that option.
However, the wait may be about to end as Microsoft will start rolling out 3D avatars starting in May. We tell you what it is about and how they will work in your Microsoft Teams account.
3D avatars are coming to Microsoft Teams
In a previous article, we told you that Microsoft Teams was implementing new video filters for meetings. But it will not be the only novelty that the team has prepared to give users more options when joining a video call.
If we take a look at Microsoft’s roadmap, we find that 3D avatars are scheduled to launch starting in May:

How to use a 3D avatar in Microsoft Teams meetings
As mentioned in the description, these 3D avatars can become a handy option when you can’t be in front of the screen in a Microsoft Teams meeting. Yes, for those situations when you do not want to appear on video or turn on the camera, either because you are sick or because you are not in an environment that you feel comfortable with.
In that case, you can use your 3D avatar to represent yourself in the meeting. Microsoft will use its technology to “interpret the user’s vocal cues” to animate the avatar. And of course, these avatars will have a lot of options so we can customize it, just like the Microsoft team mentioned last year.
So you can choose it taking into account your physical characteristics, your style of clothing or the type of meeting, accessories, hairstyles, facial features, etc. We will find these and other options in these new 3D avatars that Microsoft Teams will implement shortly.
