Design: does not look premium (nor does it need to)
First of all, please allow us the license to use the good pretty and cheap because on the one hand beauty is relative and on the other, it is difficult to use that adjective with a robot vacuum cleaner. The truth is that without being a bad thing, they are not among the decisive qualities when choosing a vacuum cleaner. That said, I personally find it pretty.

A look at the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop 2S gives me a feeling of déjà vú. It looks quite similar, both in shape and colors, to the successful Xiaomi Mi Vacuum (one of the robot vacuum cleaners with the best value for money in recent years). That is, it has a conservative and consolidated design of a flattened cylinder with a “txapela” for the laser sight.
You will not find a trace of premium finishes: its design is functional and reliable
In it you will not find premium finishes that emulate metal, elegant matte or brilli-brilli surfaces: it is carefree, made of matte plastic and withstands finger grease like a charm. If he ever bumps into something or you accidentally kick him (it happens to all of us), he’ll take it just fine. In short: functional and compliant design.
In the upper part it has two buttons, HOME and ON/OFF, which will help you to send it to the base or a complete cleaning in the simplest way possible. It also has a lid, which if you lift you will find the solids and liquids tank. Both deposits are rather small, so be careful because it is relatively easy for the solids to fill and the water to empty. Or what is the same, to vacuum and scrub in vain. However, if you have the voice assistant activated, the robot itself will remind you (but not the app).
On the front it has the classic “bumper” to avoid deterioration in the event of possible crashes and two silver plates that are obvious. And it is that unlike the vast majority of vacuum cleaners, which are loaded with two plates located at the top, the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop 2S is loaded from the front.
This has its advantages and disadvantages: the good thing is that the base is really small and the not so good thing is that the contact is worse, so more than once it has run out of battery because it is not correctly oriented for charging, something that can happen to you if you carry it and place it on the base yourself. Even so, the robot notifies with a voice message when charging begins.
If we turn it over we find a side brush and a central plastic roller with spirally distributed bristles, a fairly common configuration and, without being the best, it is effective. The three wheels responsible for moving and changing direction and the fall arrest sensors to detect unevenness, for example stairs, are also located in that position.
Navigation and autonomy
(Most of) the most advanced models have a combination of laser and camera to navigate, in the medium and medium-high range we find either a camera or a laser and among the most modest they manage to do a few extra laps because of a basic sensor.
Truth be told: smart navigation is appreciated. Greatly reduces the chance of you getting stuck or accidentally breaking something (although this all, Xiaomi has opted for the old fashion and minimalism.
Or what is the same: that you will have to bend down, open the lid and pull to extract the tank every time you clean. This will empty the solids tank. If you also want to scrub the floor, before it comes into action you will have to fold the kidney again to repeat the process and fill the tank. The task, however tedious it may be, does not represent any complication beyond that if you are allergic to dust, you should avoid exposure.

But I’ll also tell you: at the price these bases are, if you don’t have back problems or allergies and you also have a small flat (triple check on my part), it’s not that bad.
At the back of the tank you will find the filter clearly visible, which you can remove by pressing both tabs and clean it with a few taps or, more seriously, with water. If you turn the robot over, you can release the central brush by pressing on the two tabs to clean it, for which the included tool will come in handy.
In addition to the paper manual, in the application you have all the maintenance information: the estimation of deterioration, method and frequency of cleaning and how often you have to replace the filter, mop, main and side brush.

Is it the best-navigating robot vacuum on the market? Is it the one with the most sophisticated and complete base? Does it offer a very high suction power? Is your scrubbing system innovative? Does it have autonomy to work for hours and hours? The answer to all of them is no. And yet It is the robot vacuum cleaner that I would buy.
The reason is simple: if I go to the search engine of an online store and configure the filter to find a model with connectivity, intelligent navigation and a price range of less than 300 euros, I will find very few models. If I lower it to 200, it will probably only come out this Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop 2S that, although it does not excel in anything, it fulfills in everything.
It’s not a robot vacuum for everyone, but it will probably satisfy most
Why are these two characteristics so important? First, because I am grateful that the robot vacuum cleaner finishes as soon as possible, does not go around too many times and, as far as possible, does not get stuck (remember to clear the area). Second, because it is really comfortable to be able to choose to clean only one or two rooms and to be able to do it even when you are not at home.
Vacuuming is effective, mopping is average, the application works well and navigation is more than acceptable, a combo whose icing on the cake is the price. Go, It’s not a robot vacuum for everyone, but it will probably satisfy most. In this sense, my flat is rather small in size and (unfortunately) my dog ​​is no more. If your house is 100 square meters or more, you have pets or allergy problems, then it is better to opt for other models with greater autonomy, more suction power, rubber brushes and even the option of a self-emptying base.
