According to well-known leak source Digital Chat Station, Xiaomi is preparing a smartphone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Sony IMX989 image sensor. Given the latest rumors, this device could be launched as the “Xiaomi 13 Ultra”, the next flagship that we will now see outside of China. The Sony IMX989 sensor debuted with the Xiaomi 12S Ultra a few weeks ago and, at the moment, it is the only device on the market with this sensor. Its main feature is that it has a huge 1″ size that is fully exploited — not like the Sony Xperia Pro-I. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip has yet to be announced, although it is expected to debut later this size. Not only will it bring improvements in processing, but it could add image processing capabilities that improve the results of Sony’s sensor. Now, Xiaomi may not have this combination exclusively for itself for a long time. The source also now claims that Xiaomi does not have any exclusivity over Sony’s sensor, and that other rivals, even at a lower price, will also incorporate it at the cost of cutting specifications in other aspects.
