Here come the DxOMark test for Xiaomi 12 Pro the current maximum exponent of the Chinese manufacturer’s flagship range (awaiting the Ultra or Pro Plus later in the year) whose pre-orders have just started in Italy (deliveries will start on April 7). With an overall score of 131, he is in fourteenth position overall, on a par with Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra and Oppo’s Find X3 Pro, among others: a good result overall, but the peak – the Honor Magic 4 Ultimate’s 146 points – is pretty far off. Compared to the 128 points of the previous generation model there is a decent improvement, but inevitably the Ultra perform better. Unjust comparison since optics and prices change significantly, but useful for contextualizing and framing the situation.

A more detailed analysis of the results highlights how the main limitation of the device compared to the top devices is simply in the optics on board. The score in the photos is 141 against an absolute maximum of 153, in the photos it is 111 (maximum 119), while in the zoom, which contains all the secondary optics (even the wide angle) Xiaomi 12 Pro stops at 65 against a maximum of 107. Among the highlights, DxOMark reports excellent performance in photos, especially a night mode that turns out to be one of the best ever tested, good short-range zoom performance and a good experience in video recording, including autofocus and stabilization. The “cons” include a bit too loud noise in nighttime video and high contrast artifacts – plus of course a shortage of dedicated mid- and long-range zoom lenses.

The comparison with Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is particularly interesting, because despite belonging to two slightly different bands (indeed, Pro vs Ultra) they get the exact same score. According to the source, S22 wins thanks to the two telephoto optics, but in the instant “point-and-shoot” Xiaomi 12 Pro is ahead thanks to its ZSL technology (Zero Shutter Lag). At this point it will be really interesting to understand how far he will be able to go the 12 Ultra.

Regarding the audio (both from the point of view of recording, therefore microphones, and from that of reproduction, therefore speaker) the smartphone totalizes 70 points, which is an average result – thirtieth in the global ranking and seventeenth in the Ultra-Premium range, which is the highest, and only one point less than the Google Pixel 6 and Samsung Galaxy S22 ranges. The speakers have a good sound especially at high volumes, as well as the dynamics and the stereo effect are good, but the bass is a bit lacking (detail that was also observed in the recording) and you might want a little more clarity. .
