If you use Telegram you already know that on many occasions we see links with an embedded reading mode and a huge preview. That is what WhatsApp is also preparing, as can be seen in the beta version code.
WhatsApp is working to implement previews of larger links, as we read in WABetaInfo, a working group specialized in viewing functions in the application before they are made public.
There are currently two ways to view links on WhatsApp:
– A link, no thumbnail. It is dangerous, since the recipient does not know what is behind the click.
– A link with a small thumbnail and the title of the publication. It helps to know what awaits us after the click, but it forces us to leave the platform.
Telegram shows much more text and larger images, and depending on the medium, a function to read the content on Telegram in case it is news.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp previews should look a bit more like Telegram’s, with a large thumbnail and hopefully more space for text, although there are no clues at the moment that they offer a comprehensive reading of the linked article.
It is important to note that WhatsApp has not disclosed this function publicly, so we do not know if, indeed, it will come to light one day. What is clear is that it can help a lot to improve the security of the platform, since it is always important to have a good idea of the medium to which you are linking in this messaging application.
