According to The Verge, WhatsApp has added a feature to send photos in high resolution (HD quality). To enable this feature, users can select the “HD” button when sending an image. This will allow photos to be sent with less compression, although no compression at all is provided. In chat, the “HD” sign will indicate higher quality photos.
Usually, WhatsApp compresses photos to a size of 1600×1052 pixels. Now with the new feature, the resolution can reach 4096×2692 pixels. Recipients are given the choice between downloading images in full or compressed quality.
The HD feature will be available to all users soon, and in addition to this, WhatsApp also plans to add the ability to send videos in HD quality.
