Meta has just rolled out a new update for the desktop version of WhatsApp that increases the number of participants in group calls. From now on, it will therefore be possible to add up to 8 people in a video call, and up to 32 in an audio call from your computer. Enough to catch up on the mobile version.
If the heart of WhatsApp is indeed in its messaging system and in particular in its end-to-end encryption, the application of Meta places more and more emphasis on calls. Recently, for example, we have seen it add to its iOS version the PiP mode on video calls, a feature long awaited by users. But even more, it is especially on group calls that the company focuses.
Indeed, messaging no longer hides its ambitions to infiltrate professional circles by competing with the big names in the sector such as, among others, Teams, Google Meet or Zoom. Also, it has gradually increased the number of participants that can be invited in a call. To date, 32 people can simultaneously join a video call.
WhatsApp Desktop is slowly catching up on the mobile version
However, this capability is reserved for the Android and iOS versions of the app. On desktop, users have long been limited in this area. A shortcoming that Meta came to fix this week. In a blog post, Mark Zuckerberg’s group announced the rollout of a new update for Windows users that finally increases the number of group call participants.

The latter will thus be able to climb up to 8 in video calls and 32 in audio calls. We therefore remain below the limits on mobile, but it is still a significant improvement. “We will continue to increase these limits over time so you can always stay connected with friends, family and colleagues”adds Meta.
In addition, this new version also improves the performance of the application, especially when synchronizing with other devices. Meta finally announces the arrival of a WhatsApp beta for Android tablets and Mac.
