WhatsApp has received a new beta update on the iOS version available on TestFlight with build 23.9.0.70.

Among the novelties, WhatsApp started testing a new tool to transcribe voice messages. This week, the stable version gained a feature that allows you to change image captions.

In the article about WhatsApp beta update 23.3.0.73 for iOS, the WABetaInfo website revealed that the application worked on a voice message transcription tool. Thanks to the feature, users will be able to know the content of a message even if they couldn’t listen to it at the time, bringing greater flexibility and accessibility.

After installing the latest iOS WhatsApp beta update 23.9.0.70 available on TestFlight, several users have reported that the functionality is available. As seen in the image below, the transcript is added to the same block as the voice message.

The feature is enabled by default, but if you don’t want to use it, you can disable it in “Settings”, “Conversations” and “Voice Message Transcription”. WhatsApp stresses that the tool is secure and preserves encryption, with transcription taking place locally on the user’s device.

To test the tool, you need to use the updated WhatsApp beta version and be on iOS 16, as it uses APIs from Apple’s latest operating system. If serious errors are not found, the novelty should arrive in the stable version of the application in the coming weeks.
