Quora wants to go beyond its current Q&A formula for social engagement with the release of Poe. Poe, who comes from Platform for Open Explorationis basically a text messaging platform, in which users can interact with different chatbots based on Artificial Intelligenceincluding the increasingly popular OpenAI ChatGPT as one of the supported models at launch.
The most surprising thing is that ChatGPT, from OpenAI, does not initially offer an API or other known mechanism with which third-party platforms can connect, so at the moment the agreement between OpenAI and Quora to bring ChatGPT to Poe is unknown. To which, to questions from TechCrunch, the Quora spokesperson did not want to comment on the matter.
In any case, users will be able to interact with each chatbot separately within the service itself. Said spokesman points out in the interview to the aforementioned medium, that it is working on being able to provide a mechanism that allows interested AI model vendors to be able to integrate them into Poe in the near future.
In this regard, it notes that:
We think this will be a fun way for people to interact and explore different language models. Poe is designed to be the best way for someone to get an instant answer to any question they have, using natural conversation.
It also points to the need for there is an interface that makes interactions with AI chatbots friendly:
There is an incredible amount of research and development going into improving the capabilities of these models, but to bring all that value to people around the world, you need good interfaces that are easy to use. We hope that we can provide that interface so that as all this development happens in the next few years, everyone around the world can share in the benefits as much as possible.
From Quora they are not taking action on the matter about the possibility that some of the supported AI chatbots may offer misinformation, ideological biases or any other negative interaction, trusting that the providers of these AI models themselves will establish filtering and content control mechanisms.
In this regard, it should be remembered that from Stack Overflow they do not want to know anything about ChatGPT at the moment because of the wrong answers that can give the impression of being true.
They also want to make it clear that This is a separate project that, for the moment, will focus on improving those aspects that early access users detect, not currently thinking of any commercial model for this service.
At the moment, Poe is available by invitation and only as an application for iOS. Those who are able to participate will initially be met with a variety of suggestions for topics to discuss.
