YouTube has announced the creation of a new tool aimed at facilitating the monetization of its users’ activity on the platform. The so-called “Super Thanks”, still in a test state, allow followers of content creators to make direct donations through YouTube to support your favorite channels.
YouTube’s ‘Super Thanks’ allow users of the platform to make a donation to fund their favorite channels
The tool can be used both in the desktop version and in the mobile app, the same on Android as on iOS. It is already available in 68 countries, and YouTube ensures that by the end of the year it will be available to users around the world.
How YouTube “Super Thanks” work
When a user decides to donate an amount of money to a YouTube channel that follows, they will have four options set. Although the amounts vary by country, in the United States they are currently $ 2, 5, 10 or 50. At the moment, it is not known if in the future the user will be able to choose the amount freely.
This option will appear in the bar below the videos, as one more icon next to the “I like”, “I do not like” or “Share”. This icon will have the shape of a heart with the dollar symbol inside, and will put the inscription “Thanks” underneath. This tool can be used both in the videos uploaded to the platform and in those that are being broadcast live.
When making the payment, YouTube will show some balloons on the screen, and the recipient of the money receives a comment informing him of how much it has been donated. As with other monetization tools offered by YouTube, such as Super Chat or Super Stickers, the company will keep 30% of the donated money.
If a content creator wants to know if they have access to this option, they must go to YouTube Studio. From there you must click on the tab “Monetization” and then to the “Supers” section. Upon logging in, you will be able to see if this Super Thanks tool is available for your channel.
