Known around the world for testing and scoring the camera, audio and display quality of consumer electronics products, French high-tech company DXOMARK today announces a new score for the battery experience of smartphones. .

“Battery performance depends on a combination of factors, such as the choice of hardware components and the optimization of power management software. With our end-user-centric score, we aim to guide consumers in their decisions about buys”. – Olivier Simon, Director of Battery Evaluation at DXOMARK.

Strictly adhering to the company’s testing philosophy of scientifically evaluating the end-user experience of devices, DXOMARK has developed a comprehensive testing protocol for the battery of smartphones. The proprietary battery test protocol covers a wide range of common real-life uses of smartphones, including social media, communication, and multimedia applications.

Our #dxomark smartphone #Battery test protocol is very comprehensive covering all areas of battery experience – autonomy, charging and efficiency. Read about our testing methods: https://t.co/Oex6Ib86mc

70 measurements, 6.5 days of testing behind each DXOMARK Battery score

The DXOMARK battery testing protocol assesses the entire battery experience and quantifies 3 main areas:

  • Autonomy (how long a charge lasts, for different intensities of use)
  • Charging (how long it takes to recharge or how short recharges increase battery life)
  • Efficiency (how much the phone consumes when charging or discharging)

The test protocol contains laboratory measurements performed in indoor stationary environments complemented by mobility tests.

Performed by experts using professional-grade equipment

More than a year ago, DXOMARK created a team of battery experts to develop its battery evaluation system. To do this, the company has invested in state-of-the-art equipment, such as a set of tactile robots that simulate human use, such as games and browsing social media applications. The robots are installed in a Faraday cage, which provides stable and controlled network conditions. The lighting configuration in the cage is used to stimulate the reaction of smartphone screens to light, an important factor for battery consumption.

First series of scores: up to 17 phones in all price segments tested

The Samsung Galaxy M51 emerges as the top-ranked device for its overall performance. With an average duration of 80 hours of use, the Wiko U30 is at the top of the autonomy classification. OPPO’s Find X3 range is at the top of the leaderboard for its charge, which allows users to charge ultra-fast from 0 to 80%. Apple’s iPhone 12 Pro Max is way ahead of the competition in terms of efficiency.
