We tested the Spanish mobile phone for those who want to spend as little as possible and use WhatsApp non-stop

We analyze the SPC Discovery Pro, a basic smartphone that seeks to gain a foothold in the Spanish market at a price of less than 170 euros.

The mobile segment below 200 euros It is a really competitive field in Spain. It is one of the most attractive price ranges for users, with very competent alternatives from brands such as Xiaomi, Realme, Vivo or Samsung, and now SPC also wants to compete in this segment with a mobile phone that improves on the SPC Discovery, its version Pro.

SPC invited Libre to visit its offices in Vitoria, and there we were able to have a small contact with the SPC Discovery Pro, and now we’ve been testing it for a few weeks. The phone that presents certain differences, for the better, compared to the base model, both in design and components.

This device highlights its large 5,000 mAh battery and the improvements to its screen, which is now Full HD+ resolution, as well as its processor. Its design is a very important section since it differentiates it from the base model, mainly, by its glossy finish edges.

The SPC Discovery Pro has certain similarities with its little brother, such as its rear part. This also has the camera module located in the upper left, although in this case there is one more sensor. The rest of this part is totally smooth and with A matte touch that is very pleasant to the hand, but is also somewhat slippery.

The edges of the device are still flat, only in this case the company has opted for a glossy finish that gives it a more premium look. Yes indeed, it also gets a little more dirty although it is something that can be easily solved with a transparent case that allows this design to show off.

On the front we only find the screen, surrounded by a frame that is not symmetrical, because It is slightly larger at the bottom than at the top.. It has a hole in the camera to house and front sensor.

On the right side there are the two volume buttons and the non-on button that also serves as a fingerprint reader. It is a very polished design for a device with a low price, and it is something to be appreciated.

The Pro model also grows in size, integrating a 6.8-inch screen, in this case, Full HD resolution and IPS technology with a refresh rate of 60 Hz. It is a simple panel, but what does it provide more than the HD model that was in the base model.

It is a sufficient screen for everyday use and for occasionally watching a video or even a movie. The fact that it has a refresh rate of 60 Hz makes the feeling of fluidity less. In this price range, some manufacturers are betting on lower resolution screens, but 90 Hz, so it’s a matter of taste. Personally, I prefer this increase in resolution.

SPC Discovery Pro Screen

Although it is not a device especially designed for multimedia, the resolution of its screen is correct, and is sufficient for all those users who are going to give basic use to the mobile phone, focused on instant messaging applications and little more.

To move Android 13, which is the operating system with which it arrives, the device uses a Unisoc T616 processor. It is a basic chip with which you can do quite a few tasks on Android with a good experience, it’s just that the heavier ones will take longer. This processor does not allow you to play the most graphically demanding titles, so it is not the best option if you want to squeeze the most out of your mobile in this sense.

It has 128 GB of internal storage and 6 GB of RAM, a sufficient combination for the current requirements of Android and that will ensure that the device will not fall short in the nearest future. It is a step forward compared to other lower priced models, which may notice a shortage of RAM or storage as the months go by. In addition, it has the possibility of increasing its storage using a microSD card.

As stated by SPC in the presentation of its new range of devices, if they develop an update to Android 14, the company will first do speed and performance tests to determine if the mobile works faster than with Android 13, in case Otherwise, the devices will not be updated. Its large 5,000 mAh battery is capable of lasting almost two days of moderate use, which gives it great performance and makes it perfectly endure a day of intense use. The accompanying fast charging is 18W.

Taking into account that this is a device with a starting price of less than 170 euros, it is clear that the camera is not going to be one of the strong points. After all, the brand You must prioritize what you want to offer your users, and in this case it has opted for the battery and the design. It has a triple rear camera composed of a 50 Mpx main sensor, a 5 Mpx wide angle and a 2 Mpx macro.

During the day, the photographs are enough to be able to save, send or share them on social networks, but it is true that it does not shine particularly well. In good light, the sensor is capable of capturing some detail when shooting in normal mode. The colors are usually quite vivid due to the processing that the device does, sometimes being unnatural.

The selfie is correct, although on some occasions a little more detail is also missing. It must be taken into account that this is a device with a very low starting price, and it is normal that in these ranges a large photographic section is not offered, since its virtues are other.

The Spanish company seeks to compete in the entry segment with this mobile, and it can do so perfectly. As is logical for its price of 169 euros which may decrease a little over time, it is not a smartphone that seeks to stand out in sections such as the screen or the camera, in offering an experience that is sufficient for the majority of users looking for a basic device.

You miss some speed and fluidity, but you will have no problem when it comes to talk on WhatsApp, browse social networks or make inquiries online. It also has NFC connectivity to make payments using Google Wallet or the bank app.

In short, it is a mobile phone that can be highly recommended for those people who want a big battery in a nice body, but without spending too much. The camera is not one of its virtues, but at least it has three sensors that provide some versatility.
